A new affordable apartment community stands just northeast of MacArthur Park – the striking 619 Westlake, built by Milender White, developed by Meta Housing and the Cesar Chavez Foundation, and designed by The Architects Collective. The 78-unit, 98,657 sq. ft. building is near the historic Westlake Theater, on four parcels along Westlake Avenue.
619 Westlake features a “building block” design, with two towers of three-bedroom apartments linked by a dramatic “bridge” of one-bedroom units spanning a courtyard with attractive landscaping and hardscaping. At grade, 619 Westlake also includes a community wing, a social services wing, and 29 parking spaces. A METRO station is just two blocks away. The construction is Type VA/IA.
Units are priced for households earning 30-60% of the area median income. Thirty-nine of the apartments have been planned as permanent supportive housing for people facing the challenge of homelessness.
Amenities are numerous and include a community kitchen, a central laundry facility, a tot lot, a dance studio, music practice rooms, and a visual arts space.
