Neon – Arikaree Aquatic Monitoring Site

Idalia, Colorado

Type: Government, Utility & Infrastructure

Owner: National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON)

Architect: RMH Group

Project Summary

The National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) is comprised of over 60 aquatic and tower sites across the United States and is funded by the National Science Foundation. The network is a large data-collection program gathering important environmental/ecological data for scientists, educators, and planners to predict the effects of human activity on ecology.

Milender White was selected by NEON to construct their first aquatic site in eastern Colorado. This site required the installation of over 1,000-ft of buried fiber and electrical materials enabling NEON to effectively collect scientific data within the Arikaree stream bed.

Due to the sensitive environmental nature of this project, we were required to maintain constant environmental awareness while working with local agencies, landowners, suppliers, vendors, and NEON. Milender White implemented a detailed construction plan ensuring minimal environmental impact.
