October 1st, 2020, Denver, Colorado
Mile High Development (MHD) and Brinshore Development, along with Milender White and KTGY Architecture+Planning will celebrate the grand unveiling of Capitol Square Apartments in a virtual groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, October 1 at 9:00 am (MST).
The project is located one block from the Colorado State Capitol Building on the corner of 13th Avenue and Sherman Street in Denver. This 6-story affordable housing development totals 120,405 sq. ft. and will provide 103 one- and two-bedroom housing units. Affordability of units covers a range of 30% AMI – 80% AMI, providing workforce housing at a critical time. Amenities include a leasing office, community space and fitness room at ground level as well as a landscaped outdoor terrace at the second-floor courtyard. Parking is provided for 68 vehicles at the ground and basement levels. The project will seek Enterprise Green Communities certification.
The Colorado State Land Board has entered into a long term lease with the developers. Lease proceeds will support the Land Board’s mission to raise funds for education and the K-12 BEST program.
Construction financing and tax credit equity investment is being provided by US Bank. Permanent financing is being provided by Freddie Mac and gap financing is being provided by the Colorado Division of Housing and the City of Denver Department of Housing Stability (HOST).
The virtual celebration event will include a grand unveiling and curated remarks about the importance of this project to both the City of Denver and the State of Colorado. Participants include Governor Jared Polis and representatives from Colorado Housing & Finance Authority (CHFA), and City of Denver HOST.
George Thorn, President and Founder of MHD, stated: “On behalf of Mile High Development and Brinshore Development, it is a deep honor to mark this moment in time. Our team has been dedicated to making this project a reality, and this event represents new beginnings for more than 100 new neighbors. This building will rise up just steps away from Colorado’s lawmakers, setting a powerful example of the importance of high-quality affordable housing.”
“One thing remains true in these uncertain times, and that is the deep need to invest in inclusive communities. The time has come to reimagine and rebuild the American city, and this project is one way Milender White is continuing to build affordable, inclusive housing.“ said Albus Brooks, Vice President of Business Development and Strategy for Milender White.
In order to follow proper COVID-19 protocol, all participants are encouraged to join the event virtually unless otherwise noted. This groundbreaking event will be socially distanced, and masks will be required at all times.
